Community Aspirations
Seeking to address issues around depopulation in the coastal town of Eyemouth, Camerons Architects were approached by Eyemouth Community Trust to assist in identifying a strategy to re-energise the area. Central to this was the proposed conversion of Eyemouth's B-listed former burgh chambers building and the replacement of the adjoined former town hall with a new contemporary extension to provide a social enterprise business hub, community centre, function room, offices, and a café/shop.
The Trust secured Stage 1 funding from BIG Lottery to develop the Project to RIBA stage 3. Planning Permission was awarded and substantial offers of match funding were in place; however, the project ultimately failed to competitively secure the main body of funding required to bring the proposals to site.
